The Right Way to Shop for Children's Bedroom Furniture
Shopping for children's bedroom furniture can be exciting and stressful at the same time. Since there are so many different options available, from colors and styles, it's all too easy to become quickly frustrated.
Go with a Matching Set
While a designer is likely to tell you the opposite, it's generally best if you go with a matching bedroom set. While having some variety is good, you want the room to be functional and attractive. You can spruce up the room with different décor such as a rug, bookcases, etc.
High Quality Furniture Is Best
Sure, it's easy to fall into the trap of buying cheap furniture, but you'll be replacing it again in a few years after your kids have completely torn it up. A high quality piece made from solid wood, rather than some cheap particle board, is going to hold up much better over the years. That furniture that was cheap in the beginning, won't look so cheap after you've replaced for the third time.
Also, try to stay away from faddish furniture options. You want something that's going to be an attractive item for many years.
Give it a Test Run
Many stores offer an option to return furniture that was purchased within say the last 30 days or so. In doing so, they're betting that most won't even consider returning something that's so bulky and hard to move. And they're right!
But while you can sit on a bed at the store, rest in a chair, etc, you won't truly know how a piece fits with your needs until it's unpacked and being used in your home.
Selecting children's bedroom furniture can be a tedious chore, but having a plan of attack will go a long ways to a smoother shopping experience. Stick with quality and traditional styling, and you'll end up with a bedroom your kids will love for many years to come.
